When Sildenafil is combined with nitrates, it can cause severe blood pressure drops. A drop in blood pressure that is too severe can cause dizziness, fainting, heart attack, stroke, or even heart attacks. Sildenafil should not be used in combination with the following drugs: drugs used to treat chest pain/angina (nitrates like nitroglycerin, isosorbide) and recreational drugs known as “poppers”, which contain amyl nitrate, amyl nitrite, or butyl nitrite.
Your blood pressure could drop if you’re also taking an alpha-blocker medication (such as doxazosin, Tamsulosin) for high blood pressure or enlarged prostate. This can cause dizziness and fainting. To reduce your chance of low blood pressure, your doctor may recommend a lower dosage of Sildenafil.
Sildenafil removal can be affected by other medications. This could affect Sildenafil’s effectiveness. Itraconazole, ketoconazole, macrolide antibiotics, HIV protease inhibitors (such ritonavir and saquinavir), hepatitis B virus protease inhibitions (such telaprevir, boceprevir), mifepristone and rifampin among others) These are just a few examples.
